Glossary

Will - A document that allows you to legally state what should happen to your assets when you die.

Executor (Executrix) - Responsible for the practical business of administering instructions outlined in a Will.

Guardian - Individuals nominated in a Will to look after the physical and emotional well-being of children.

Estate - The total value of all your property and possessions after any debts that you owe and any taxes due are paid.

Beneficiary - Individual or organization left money property or possessions in a Will.

Rules of Intestacy - A set of legal rules which determine who will inherit your estate when you are gone if you don't leave a Will.

Witness - an independent person who witnesses the signing of your Will.

Inheritance Tax - a tax that may need to paid when you die, depending on the size of your estate.

Testator (Testatrix) - person who makes the Will
